Wines of Hungary
This will be a gentle introduction to the wines of Hungary. We won’t stray too far afield from what is certainly one of the most renowned wines in the world, the sweet golden Tokaji Aszú, with its flavors of tangerines, apricots, cinnamon and cloves, made with grapes blessed by the “noble rot” . (You’ll learn more about this at the tasting.)
But even if dessert wines aren’t your thing, you’ll enjoy this tasting. Because the Tokaj region also produces excellent dry wines from many of the same grapes used in Tokaji Aszú. Like Furmint. Other international varietals such as bright, crisp Grüner Veltliner are grown here, too, which will also be in the tasting.
All but one of the wines (the Gruner) will be from the Disznókő estate in Tokaj, known for its beautiful balanced wines with superb complexity and long finish.
Count Karolyi Gruner Veltliner – $13.95
Disnoko Tokaji Dry Furmint – $21.95
Disnoko Dry “Inspiration” – $23.95
Disnoko Furmit Kesoi Kesoi Szuret/Late Harvest 23.95
Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 53.95
10 percent off all bottle prices of wines poured (15 percent case discounts). We are happy to announce that supplies of these wines are NOT limited at this tasting. All wines will be sold on a pre-order basis, with pick-up at your convenience next week at AWC.
